Dixwell Ave Community House
(also know as Healthy Community Garden)
Surrounded by tall buildings on two sides, and tall trees on one other, one would wonder whether the this garden would have sufficient light to grow vegetables. But grow they do! Douglas Brown very successfully manages 10 gardeners in a high traffic area of Dixwell Avenue. Food production is high. Like other gardens in the area, Healthy Community gives a portion of the food produced to neighborhood residents. Picnics and BBQ’s are often held on the ground and the gate is open several hours a day for passers-by.

Goals:
Doug would like some help clearing some trees on the far eastern end of the property. Significant morning sunlight is blocked by these trees. North district coordinator will work with the Healthy Community Garden to clear this obstacle to sunlight. Location
